Vacation is a time where people stop their duties and usually go somewhere for rest or exciting activities. Every year, during the summer, my family and I go on vacation. We have been to many places throughout the years. I enjoy and look forward to our trips together as a family. Our vacation is a time when we can relax, not worry about work or school and spend time with each other.

Out of all the places I have been to, the one vacation I have enjoyed the most is our many trips to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Although North Carolina isn’t very far from Virginia Beach, once we are there it seems like we are miles and miles away from home. It has been a tradition every summer that my family and I go to North Carolina since I was a little girl.

Many memories are included in this relaxing vacation. Each year we rent a different beach house online. We never know exactly what the house will look like inside until we get there. As a kid, I loved to be the first one to run in and look at everything inside and pick out which room I would share with my cousin. In the Outer Banks, where we stayed, there is a beach where you can drive on with four-wheel drive vehicles. We always bring my dad’s truck so that we can drive on the beach and pick a satisfying spot to relax at. Sometimes, in the dunes, we would find wild horses roaming the sandy hills. Also, when it got dark, we would take flashlights to a beach and look for white crabs that we would call “ghost crabs.” My mom would make up stories all the time to entertain us when we were younger.

Although it is a tradition to go to North Carolina every summer, we have skipped our Outer Banks getaway to go to different places overseas. We have gone to Cancun, Costa Rica, and even a cruise to Cozumel, Belize, and Key West. Even though all these places are extraordinary, and beautiful with their beaches and such, I will always enjoy my childhood memories of North Carolina.
